Throughout the centuries, Mary Magdalene as been a popular Biblical figure. Her story is that of the lowly who finds redemption through the of the love of Jesus Christ. Pianist Maribeth Alexander depicts through music, the emotions of Mary Magdalene as she follows Christ even through His death and resurrection. Story

Physical closeness is also essential to a loving relationship, and an "Embrace" is one way to tell the one you are with, "I love you"! Hence, "Embrace" is the second song on the "Love Themes" CD.

Love

03:22
Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Love" is the most sought after emotion in the world.  Whether king or peasant, all seek to love and be loved. . .

Life

05:04
Maribeth Alexander

Story

How can you write about "Love" if you don't first consider "Life"?  One must first have "Life" before one can experience "Love". . .

Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Forgiveness" is an essential attribute of the emotion, "love".  Without forgiveness, love will not thrive, and in all probability will die.  Therefore, because of the importance of "Forgiveness", I have placed it as the beginning of the "Love Themes" CD.

Kiss

03:56
Maribeth Alexander

Story

Another aspect of "Love" is the "Kiss". This song is a cross between George Gershwin and Frederic Chopin. . . an interesting combination.

Maribeth Alexander

Story

One of the attributes of "Love" is "Kindness". . . how can we love if we can't be kind toward one another?

Maribeth Alexander

Lyrics

"Compassion"--one's desire to help a fellow man/woman in need--a much needed attribute in our society today.

Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Turning" represents our desire to "turn" from the things that hurt or hinder our relationship with the one we love. . . considering the other person above oneself. . .

How?

04:48
Maribeth Alexander

Story

"How?". . . you are not to ask "WHY am I going through something?", but ask "HOW do I go through it?" . . . working together to get past a situation or circumstance that is less than desirable, which occurs in all relationships. . . because we are human!

Hope

04:14
Maribeth Alexander

Story

This song, "Hope", was written when a young woman and her two children were killed by a drunk drive in Denver, Colorado.  My thoughts were, "There still has to be HOPE, even in death. The only one who survived was her husband, the father of the children.

This song has touched many since it was written. . .

Story

"Creation" was the song that was the inspiration for the whole "Creation: A Musical Tapestry" CD.  Originally written for my daughter, whose business had the word "Creation" in it, this song was dubbed as "Movie Music" from the beginning by those who heard it.  To me, it has the sound of "Gone With The Wind".  Consequently, I did not give this song to my daughter for her website, but instead wrote nine more "creation" songs to make the CD.

I hope you enjoy listening!

Story

My daughter, Candace, called me one day to write a song for her website.  Since "Creations" was in the title of her business, I decided to write a song entitled, "Creation".  Upon recording it, Charles Barnes thought it should be one of ten songs in an album.  Hence, the "Creation: A Musical Tapestry" was born--a musical depiction of the first four days of the creation story as recorded in Genesis 1.  Two of the songs are from Psalm 23, "Green Pastures" and "Still Waters".  All are fully orchestrated and sound like "Movie Music".

Maribeth Alexander

Story

This is song 2 in the "Creation" CD.  My students at school told me I needed to create a "youtube" video for this one!

Seas

05:13
Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Seas" is the third song on the "Creation" CD.  You can hear the "storm" and the "peace" after the storm in this song.

Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Green Pastures" is taken from Psalm 23.  While not mentioned per se in Genesis 1, green pastures were also created in the days of Creation.  This song is more peaceful and calming.

Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Trees" is a majestic piece--the introduction having the "feel" of Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C-Sharp Minor".  Trees can not only represent "trees"--Trees can represent man.

Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Still Waters" is the second song taken from Psalm 23.  It, too, is peaceful, but in a minor key which almost has the feel of "longing" for this place of serenity.

Sun

04:32
Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Sun" is full of energy:  loud, full chords with ascending and descending passages and lots of crescendos and decrescendos.  The impression upon hearing this song is the awesomeness of this part of God's creation.

Moon

04:51
Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Moon" has a very ethereal sound.  Almost everyone who hears it thinks it is a song from the "Twilight" series.  A very unusual piece. . .

Maribeth Alexander

Story

"Stars", too, has an ethereal feeling to it, but with "twinkling" effects--the last of the songs representing the creation of "light".

Story

"Wings of the Morning" was a result of getting "out of the box" in writing my music. I had struggled for some time with writing music according to "rules of composition" . I found I was not satisfied with that format. Suddenly, this song evolved, and I choose to believe it set me free from writing music by a predetermined format.

Soaring with the eagles on the "wings of the morning". . . peace. . .
